For the third year, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is recognizing National Propane Day on Oct. 7. National Propane Day serves as an opportunity to celebrate all the ways that propane keeps our lives running – from delivering primary or backup power, to heating and cooking, to powering school buses and food trucks, to manufacturing products and so much more. Propane is one of the natural gas liquids (NGLs) essential to maintaining our quality of life.

Millions of Americans use propane for heat, hot water, cooking, and power generation at home, at work, and on the road. As an abundant low-carbon, high-efficiency, and reliable energy source, propane is also an ideal choice for school buses, fleet vehicles, hospitals, restaurants, farms, ports, and many other applications.

Propane also serves as a building block of many of the everyday items we depend upon, as well as products used for healthcare and hygiene. From hand sanitizer to school supplies to sports gear, propane touches our lives more than most of us realize.

Energy Transfer and Propane

Energy Transfer is proud to play an integral role in the national propane market. In fact, we now own and operate 13 terminals that store and deliver propane to customers across the United States. This includes our Marcus Hook Terminal, which supplies much of the region’s propane demand.

Throughout the year, an average of 46 propane trucks every day from numerous customers fill up at the Marcus Hook truck racks. This can rise to as many as 200 trucks per day during particularly cold weather when demand is higher. Those customers ultimately deliver the product to end users, including residents, schools, hospitals, restaurants, office buildings and more.

And at each propane terminal with truck racks, that product is largely staying local once it leaves our facility. For example, nearly all of the propane sold from the Marcus Hook Terminal racks stays within the four-state region of Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland.

On Oct. 6, we are celebrating National Propane Day with a community barbecue in Marcus Hook. In addition to propane-powered food trucks, our employees will grill hot dogs on Blackstone griddles; raffle off big prizes including a TV, tablet, coolers and toys; play propane trivia; and more. Just about everything we will use to celebrate is either powered or derived from propane, and it coincides perfectly with PERC’s 2024 theme for the day: Entertain With Propane.

We are proud to honor all that propane has to offer, celebrating alongside our Marcus Hook community, and we look forward to shining a light on propane’s boundless benefits each year to come.
